CARY, N.C. - William Peace dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader to Eastern Mennonite, falling 10-9 in a back and forth opener before a 14-4 loss in game two.
In game one, the Pacers' offense was in rhythm early, scoring four runs in the first two innings and finishing with 16 hits. Jacob Herzberg went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, Justin Earle collected three hits including a triple and two RBIs, and Kyle Peters added four hits and an RBI.
After EMU surged ahead with five runs in the seventh, Peace answered with four runs in the bottom half to reclaim the lead. The Royals responded late, however, scoring once in the eighth and pushing across the go ahead run in the ninth to escape with the win.
Game two shifted early as EMU plated six runs in the third inning. Earle doubled and drove in a run, and Peace capitalized on defensive miscues to score three in the third, but the Pacers were limited to three hits on the afternoon. EMU added to its lead in the middle innings to secure the sweep.
William Peace will look to bounce back next weekend as it hosts the William Peace Baseball Tournament at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.
