William Peace men's basketball opened USA South play with a 64-59 road loss to Greensboro College on Tuesday afternoon at Hanes Gymnasium. The Pacers move to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action following the setback.
Peace competed throughout the afternoon despite being without two key contributors in Tyler Whitehurst and Elijah Green. The Pacers controlled much of the first half, using strong interior play and defensive energy to take a 29-22 lead into halftime.
Greensboro responded in the second half, shooting over 50 percent from the field after the break and using a late run to swing momentum. The Pride outscored Peace 42-30 in the final 20 minutes, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and timely perimeter shooting down the stretch.
Parker Hodgson led all scorers, and also tying his career high at 24 points on an spectacular 11-of-15 shooting performance while also pulling down four rebounds. Chuks Ezeonu added 10 points in the paint, and Sully Caruso contributed seven points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Shawn Jones finished with five points, 10 rebounds, and one block as Peace battled on the glass.
William Peace will look to bounce back at home this weekend, hosting a challenging Mary Baldwin squad on Friday, January 9, at 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday afternoon match up with Southern Virginia University on January 10 at 4 p.m.
