Pacers Win on the Road at Randolph

Lynchburg, Va. - The first road test of the year for the Pacers came in the form of a weekend trip to Lynchburg Virginia to face the Wildcats of Randolph College. Saturday night's non-conference matchup marks the first of three trips north of the border for the Pacers in the next week.

The Pacers and Wildcats spent much of the first half trading offensive chances. Sophomore Gabe Faria and Senior Ausar Omwenga both put shots on frame in the 28th minute, both getting dealt with by the Wildcats with no real stress. The Wildcats would respond by winning a freekick on the offensive side of midfield. The foul yielded Junior Gerardo Escobar a yellow card. The Wildcat freekick sailed painlessly over the crossbar and the 0-0 tie held.

One final push before the half won the Pacers a corner kick, but the Pacers could not cash in, the halftime score read 0-0. The first half stats did lean slightly towards Peace, as the Pacers lead in shots (5-3) shots on goal (2-1) and corner kicks (4-2).

Peace came out of the halftime break firing. Ibra Ndiaye launched a shot on frame in the 54th minute that was saved by Wildcat goal keeper Dominic Cortes. Gabe Faria followed up on the rebound but couldn't tuck it into the net.

Ten short minutes later, the Pacers built up another attack when Ausar Omwenga slid on across to the talented youngster, Ibra Ndiaye, who gave the Pacers the lead. The game's opening goal came in the 66th minute.

The Pacers and Wildcats traded offensive chances throughout the final 20 minutes. Senior Ayden Miller was up to the task, handling the 2 shots that Randolph put on frame. A platoon of defensive substitutions was made by coach Huber, and those fresh legs took the Pacers across the finish line. Peace earned a 1-0 victory Saturday night in their first road game of the year.

Coach Huber moves his squad to 2-0-1, and will come back home for a match against Guilford on Tuesday.
