Bridgewater, Va. - The Pacers took their third trip to Virginia in the last week to take on a solid Bridgewater College team. Winners of their last 3, Peace looked to continue their quality play on a beautiful day in Bridgewater, Virginia.
Bridgewater tried to get out to a fast start, earning two corner kicks within the first 5 minutes of the match. Neither set piece worked out for the Eagles and both teams settled in.
It was clear the Eagles wanted to apply constant pressure to the Pacer defense, a unit that hasn't had too much stress early in the 2025 campaign. The Eagles won a corner kick every 8 minutes of the first half.
In the 29th minute, Bridgewater was able to break through, converting on one of their corners. The shot from Noa Denno slipped underneath Ayden Miller to give Bridgewater a 1-0 lead.
The Pacers began to push back after the Eagle goal, playing from behind for only the second time all season.
Peace would slowly start to hold possession and work their way down the pitch with free kicks and throw-ins.
Just before the half time horn, Peace forward Santiago Escobar capitalized on a bad Eagle defensive turnover and flipped one into the upper right corner of the goal. The 44th minute goal created a huge turn of momentum, equalizing the match going into halftime.
The Eagles came out of the halftime break determined to capture the momentum back, and they did just that. Bridgewater got 3 shots off within the first six minutes of the second half, all 3 narrowly missing.
A fourth chance got past Miller, as the Eagles captured the lead back in the 53rd minute. Minutes later, the Eagles continued the pressure and added a third in the 56th.
The next 20 game minutes would consist of back and forth of possession changes and substitutions. A dangerous challenge by an Eagle defender was whistled for a foul inside of the Pacer offensive box. Peace midfielder Rafa Quevedo-Antunez stepped up to the spot and buried a goal to draw the Pacers within one.
Bridgewater answered back in the 82nd minute, seemingly with the dagger. Eagle forward Trey Widrick lifted the ball over the Pacer keeper, restoring the 2 goal lead.
Peace could not amass any more offense and the 4-2 score held as the final. The Eagles gave the Pacers their first loss of the year. Peace looks to bounce back on Tuesday with another trip to Virginia, this time to tangle with Roanoke.
