Men's Soccer Falls in Regular Season Finale at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The final day of the regular season saw the Pacers taking the 1.5 hour drive west to take on the Pride of Greensboro College. The Pacers needed a win to have a chance at a first round bye in the USA South conference tournament.

Greensboro got off to a fast start under a steady downpour. The Pride quickly got two shots off and Ayden Miller was forced into an early high-leverage save.

Miller made another save in the 6th minute, keeping the Pride at bay until the Pacer offense could get started.

Just 5 minutes after the pair of golden opportunities for the Pride, the Pacers got their first look at goal. Gabe Faria pushed the tempo and launched a shot on frame. The save was made by Greensboro goalkeeper Alvaro Hermosa, but he couldn't secure the rebound.

The loose ball fell right back to Faria who poked through for the first goal of the game.

The Pacers continued the offensive pressure after taking the lead. Senior Ausar Omwenga nearly scored a Pacer second in the 20th minute as the playing conditions worsened.

As the half went on, possession of the ball was hard to keep. Both teams bogged down around midfield as no one could tame the slippery ball.

In the stat column, Peace started to gain an edge in most categories as Ethan Gillette and Ehmuler Hser both had shots dealt with.

Peace went into the halftime locker room with a 1-0 lead, and with no real sweat on any Greensboro chance after the first 5 minutes.

The rain had subsided as the Pacers and Pride got ready for the second half.

Greensboro leaned on the Pacer defense in the first 5 minutes of the half, winning a couple of corner kicks.

The Pride looked urgent, possessing the ball for the entirety of the first 8 minutes of the half.

In the 55th minute, Greensboro worked the ball into the center of the field. Greensboro's Eddie Hemmington was able to get free for a shot. In what seemed like slow motion, Hemmington's shot from outside the 18 yard box skidded across the damp turf, beating Miller to the low right corner.

The equalizer completely swung momentum in a match that has previously felt dominated by the visiting Pacers.

Greensboro now seemed to be the aggressor as the Pacer chances became more and more distant. A flurry of corner kicks came around the 60th minute for Greensboro and each chance seemed to increase in danger.

The Pride broke through and took the lead in the 65th, turning in a low, in-swinging ball off a corner.

The Pacers picked up the urgency, getting a shot on frame in the 74th, but it was easily dealt with by the Greensboro keeper.

Ausar Omwenga got another shot off in the 78th, but the senior was moving too fast and the shot sailed over the bar.

Greensboro wrestled the possession away from the Pacers in the 85th and ended any last chance flurry.

The Pacers dropped the last game of their regular season in Greensboro Wednesday night, 2-1. Peace will have to play in the first round of the USA South conference tournament this Saturday, missing out on the first round bye.
