Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. - In a high-scoring USA South match up on Saturday afternoon, William Peace men's lacrosse battled hard but ultimately came up short in a 19-13 road loss to Southern Virginia.
The Pacers (4-5, 2-3 USA South) struck first and built an early 3-2 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Jordan DeJesus, William English, and Quinn Acree. Despite the strong start, Southern Virginia (6-7, 3-2 USA South) answered with a four-goal run and never lost the lead.
William English led the Pacers with a 4-point effort (2 goals, 2 assists), while Quinn Acree and Brandon Goad each tallied a hat trick. Jamar Bell added 3 goals and an assist, and Cullen Hunt contributed a goal, 11 ground balls, and won 19 of 31 face offs in an impressive all-around performance.
Defensively, Dylan Sullivan held strong in goal with 16 saves, keeping William Peace within close distance throughout.
The Pacers made a fourth-quarter push, scoring six times in the final frame, including two late goals from Goad and Acree. However, the Knights' offensive depth proved too much, with Tyson Mauri (5 goals, 3 assists) and Clay Haacke (5 goals) leading Southern Virginia.
The Pacers return to action next week looking to bounce back.
