GREENSBORO, N.C. — William Peace University softball earned a hard-fought split against Greensboro College on Saturday at Barber Park, taking a 9-6 win in game one before falling in a close 3-2 battle in extra innings in game two.
In the opener, the Pacers' offense came alive early and stayed consistent throughout. William Peace recorded 14 hits, with big performances from Megan McAnany (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Reagan Stewart (2-for-3, RBI).
Kimberly Bordeaux launched a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put WPU back in front for good. Bordeaux also came on in relief to toss three shutout innings and earn the save, backing up starter Stewart who picked up her ninth win of the year.
After building a 4-3 lead in the third, the Pacers added three more in the fifth and two key insurance runs in the seventh to hold off the Pride.
Game two proved to be a pitchers' duel, as Bordeaux turned in a strong complete-game effort, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Down 2-0 in the sixth inning, the Pacers worked back with a clutch two-RBI single from Stewart to tie the game. However, Greensboro pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single to take game two, 3-2.
Cierra Lear, Jaylen Gonzalez, Bordeaux, and Stewart each recorded a hit for William Peace in the second game, but the Pacers couldn't come up with another late rally.
With the split, William Peace moves to 19-19 overall. They will now turn their focus to postseason play as they gear up for the USA South Conference Tournament.
