MISENHEIMER, N.C. — William Peace University baseball mounted a late rally but ultimately fell 7-6 to Pfeiffer University in the opening game of their weekend series at Joe Ferebee Field.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and withstood multiple pushes from the Pacers, including a three-run fifth inning and a two-run rally in the ninth.
Alex Levesque led the offense for WPU, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, a double, and a home run. His solo shot to left field in the top of the ninth cut the deficit to 7-5.
Gavin Turner had a strong performance as well, collecting three hits, including a double, and scoring a run. Justin Earle added an RBI double in the eighth inning, while Ian Turner chipped in with an RBI double of his own during the fifth-inning.
On the mound, Ryan Manning (2-3) took the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) over 5.2 innings, striking out one. Maxwell Kasprowicz threw the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits.
The Pacers (12-25, 7-12 USA South) will look to bounce back tomorrow as the series continues against Pfeiffer.
