Softball Drops Doubleheader to #21 Pfeiffer University

RALEIGH, NC - William Peace University softball dropped the opener of a doubleheader on Wednesday, falling 7-1 to Pfeiffer University. The Pacers (18-17) struck first but were unable to hold off a competitive Falcon offense that recorded 12 hits in the win.

WPU got on the board early when Cierra Lear singled, advanced on a double from Adanya Day, and scored on a passed ball to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. That would be the only run Peace would score, however, as Pfeiffer responded with two runs in the third and added five more across the fourth and fifth innings to take command.

Starter Reagan Stewart (8-6) was hit with the loss after allowing seven runs on 11 hits across 4.1 innings. Haley Joyce and Samantha Cusic combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to keep the deficit from growing.

Day finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, while Lear, Stewart, Megan McAnany, and Jaylen Gonzalez each added base hits.

William Peace closed out game two of their doubleheader with a 6-3 loss to Pfeiffer in game two.

Despite taking an early lead, the Pacers couldn't hold off the Falcons' late-game push.

The Pacers struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Isabelle Olson launched a solo home run to left field, giving William Peace a 1-0 lead. Olson continued her strong day at the plate in the third, singling and later coming around to score on a double by Reagan Stewart. An error by Pfeiffer allowed another run to cross, giving the Pacers a 3-1 lead.

However, Pfeiffer chipped away at the deficit, scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game. A passed ball in the sixth gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead, and a solo home run followed by an RBI double in the seventh secured the win for the visitors.

Olson finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Stewart added a double and an RBI. Kimberly Bordeaux went the distance in the circle for the Pacers, allowing six runs on 11 hits while striking out one.

The loss drops William Peace to 18-18 and will face Greensboro College this weekend to close out the regular season.
