Softball Drops Doubleheader to NC Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, NC — William Peace softball came up just short in both ends of Wednesday's road doubleheader at N.C. Wesleyan, falling 1-0 in the opener and 6-5 in extra innings in game two.

In game one, pitching dominated as Reagan Stewart tossed a complete game for the Pacers, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out two. The lone run of the contest came in the fourth when a double steal allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate for the Bishops.

Offensively, Peace managed only three hits—two off the bat of Adanya Day and one from Lacy Smothers. Despite putting two runners in scoring position in the sixth, the Pacers couldn't push a run across.

Game two saw a dominant offensive performance from both teams. The Pacers struck early, scoring twice in the first inning on RBI hits by Stewart and Isabelle Olson. Stewart added another RBI ground out in the third to give WPU a 3-0 lead. However, the Bishops responded with a three-run third and two more in the fourth to gain the lead.

Peace chipped away, scoring in the sixth on an NCWU error and tying the game at 5-5 in the seventh on a fielder's choice by Day. Olson led the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance including a double and an RBI, while Stewart also drove in two runs.

The game went to extras, and after the Pacers were retired in the eighth, a throwing error on a bunt allowed the winning run to score for the Bishops. Kimberly Bordeaux threw 7.1 gritty innings, striking out seven in the loss.
