CARY, NC –  Despite a ninth-inning battle, the William Peace baseball team came up just short against Westminster (Pa.), 6-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Westminster jumped ahead early, plating two runs in the first inning and adding another in the third on a solo home run from Logan Murgenovi. William Peace answered in the second with Eddie Sanchez's RBI double, cutting the deficit to 2-1. After Westminster extended their lead with a three-run fifth inning, the Pacers continued to fight, scoring in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Adam Joseph.
Trailing 6-2 heading into the eighth, William Peace began chipping away. Nick Tubolino started the rally, reaching base and later scoring on a clutch RBI single from Aaron Kimbel, narrowing the gap to 6-3.
In the ninth, Gavin Turner and Ian Turner reached base before Tubolino blasted a two-run triple to bring William Peace within one. However, Westminster closed out the game, securing the win for the Titans.
Tubolino led the Pacers with a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple. Sanchez also contributed two hits, including a double. On the mound, G. Swinson (0-1) took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings, while Maddax Brown pitched three shutout innings in relief.
The Pacers are back in action tomorrow when they finish out the series against Westminster, with a double header match up starting at 12 PM.
