RALEIGH, N.C. - Game One: William Peace University softball came up just short on Tuesday afternoon, falling 2–1 in a tight non-conference match up against Roanoke College.
Reagan Stewart was dominant in the circle, giving up just three hits and two earned runs over 7.0 innings of work. Despite the strong outing, she was tagged with the loss — her only second of the season (7–2).
Roanoke (10–8) broke through in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a walk and a pair of bunts to plate two runs. A single and a sacrifice fly made it 2–0.
The Pacers (14–6) responded in the sixth inning. After back-to-back singles from Hannah Cron and Cierra Lear and a walk to load the bases, Stewart helped her own cause by knocking an RBI single to cut the deficit in half. But the rally would stop there, and WPU couldn't capitalize in the seventh despite solid contact.
Game Two: In game two, the Pacers pulled off a dramatic extra-inning win, walking off Roanoke College 7–4 behind a three-run bomb from Reagan Stewart in the bottom of the eighth.
The Pacers (14–7) got the scoring started early when Adanya Day crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Day wasn't done, adding a solo shot in the sixth inning to give her two homers and three RBIs on the day.
Roanoke (11–8) battled back with a three-run fifth to tie the game at 3–3 and tacked on another in the seventh to level it again at 4–4, forcing extras.
After keeping the Maroons off the board in the top of the eighth, WPU started the inning with Megan McAnany on second via international tiebreaker. Samantha Cusic pinch ran, Day drew an intentional walk, and that's when Stewart came in clutch — launching a shot over the fence to seal the win.
Stewart finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Day went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Taryn Shelton added a pair of hits for the Pacers, who tallied eight total in the game.
Kimberly Bordeaux started in the circle, striking out four over 5.0 innings, and Haley Joyce closed it out with 3.0 strong innings of relief to earn the win.
