Baseball Drops Two Games to Methodist in Conference Opener Series

CARY, N.C. Game One: In a back-and-forth battle that stretched into extra innings, William Peace University came up just short, falling to Methodist University 8-4 in 11 innings. The Pacers fought hard throughout the game, tying it in the ninth but were unable to hold off a four-run 11th inning by the Monarchs.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Jacob Herzberg sparked a rally after getting hit by a pitchGavin Turner and Nevin Norville followed with walks to load the bases. Nick Tubolino then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Herzberg to send the game into extras.

After a scoreless 10th inning, Methodist capitalized in the 11th, stringing together key hits, including a two-run single, and adding two more on a sacrifice fly and a bunt to put the game out of reach.

Despite the loss, William Peace put together a strong offensive effort, collecting 13 hits while limiting Methodist to just 11.

Game Two:

After Methodist jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, William Peace responded in the fifth with a three-run inning, highlighted by an RBI single from G. Turner and good baserunning by Adam Joseph and Aaron Kimbel, who capitalized on passed balls to score. Methodist answered back with a run in the eighth and a four-run ninth to extend their lead.
