MONTGOMERY AL. - William Peace University men's lacrosse earned a thrilling 9-8 victory over Huntingdon College in a back-and-forth conference showdown, finished by a game-winning goal with just two seconds remaining.
Quinn Acree led the Pacers (4-2, 2-0) with a four-goal performance. William English added two goals and two assists, while Brandon Goad sealed the victory with a clutch goal in the final moments.
The Pacers controlled the first half, jumping out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter behind goals from Acree and English. Huntingdon (2-5, 1-2) kept things close, cutting the deficit to 5-2 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Acree continued with two third-quarter goals to give WPU a 7-2 advantage. However, Huntingdon compiled a rally, scoring six of the game's final eight goals in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 8-8.
With the clock winding down, Goad found an opening and ripped the game-winner with just two seconds left, securing the win for the Pacers.
"The boys earned a great win!" WPU Head Coach Troy Humphrey said after the game. "A long trip with travel delays, no AC, and injuries throughout the game couldn't diminish their desire to be 1-0 in the conference! They keep surprising us, as a coaching staff! We're extremely proud of them!"
Goalkeeper Dylan Sullivan held it down on defense for the Pacers, recording 14 saves in goal.
The Pacers look to continue the momentum into their next match up against Piedmont on Saturday, March 22nd.
