CARY, N.C. - Despite a determined effort and a strong offensive showing through three quarters, William Peace men's lacrosse fell to Piedmont 19-9 on Saturday afternoon at WakeMed Park.
The Pacers (3-3, 1-1 USA South) found themselves trailing early as Piedmont opened the game with five unanswered goals, but WPU battled back, cutting the deficit to 12-9 midway through the third quarter led by William English and Quinn Acree.
English finished the day with four goals and an assist, while Acree recorded a hat trick, scoring three straight in the third to give the Pacers momentum. Zach Fields and Jamar Bell also found the back of the net, with assists coming from Cullen Hunt and English.
Piedmont, however, took control in the fourth quarter, shutting out the Pacers 5-0 to seal the win and remain unbeaten in conference play.
William Peace struggled in man-up opportunities, going 0-for-8 despite drawing 11 penalties. Goalie Dylan Sullivan made 11 saves in nearly 57 minutes of action, with Tom Newhall adding two saves in relief.
The Pacers will look to regroup and bounce back as they continue their USA South schedule in the coming days.
