Softball Splits with Guilford on Opening Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Game One: The William Peace softball team opened their 2025 season with a hard-fought battle against Guilford, ultimately falling 9-8 in a nail-biting finish at Haworth Field.

The Pacers started strong, putting up three runs in the first inning. Reagan Stewart's two-RBI double set the tone, followed by Lacy Smothers' RBI single to give William Peace an early 3-0 lead. Stewart continued to shine with a solo home run in the third inning, helping the Pacers build a 5-2 lead.

William Peace's offense stayed hot in the fifth inning, adding three more runs. A sacrifice fly by Caroline Burdsal extended the lead to 8-3. Stewart led the Pacers offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Cierra Lear also contributed with three hits, including a double.

However, Guilford mounted a comeback, scoring six runs in the final two innings. In the seventh, Guilford completed the rally with a walk-off RBI single, securing the 9-8 win.

On the mound, Reagan Stewart pitched five solid innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits, while Haley Joyce (0-1) took the loss in relief, surrendering five runs in 1.2 innings.

Game Two:

William Peace came back in game two to defeat Guilford, 13–11, in a game that featured timely hitting.

The Pacers jumped out of the gate in the top of the 1st inning, with Caroline Burdsal's double setting the tone and Adanya Day's RBI double sparking the early run. The offense continued to score in the 2nd and 3rd innings—Megan McAnany's homer and timely singles by Day and others helped build the lead.

On the mound for William Peace, Kimberly Bordeaux earned the win despite a tough outing—pitching 5 innings and surrendering 11 hits, 11 runs, and issuing 4 walks.

Errors on both sides and a few wild pitches added to the back and forth affair. Ultimately, the late-inning offensive outburst proved decisive, allowing William Peace to secure a hard-fought victory.

"After battling weather for the past week, I'm proud of how our bats came out today. WPU Head Coach Lauren Conway said after the double header match up. "I'm looking forward to seeing more growth and the team reaching their potential!"

The Pacers look to continue this momentum as they face Lynchburg tomorrow for a double header match up starting at 12 PM.
