Pacers Tab Humphrey As Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace Athletics welcomed Troy Humphrey as the new head men's lacrosse coach on Thursday.

"We can't wait for Troy to get started," Pacers' Athletic Director Claude Shields said. "During the interview process it was clear that Coach Humphrey has the experience and dedication to build our program the right way. We believe that we hit a home run with the leadership that he will provide to the young men in our men's lacrosse program. The future is bright!"

Humphrey comes to William Peace from Methodist, where he was the assistant coach on the men's lacrosse staff during the 2024 season. Under Humphrey's tutelage as defensive coordinator and recruiter, Methodist tied for second in the USA South Conference in goals against average per game. Methodist earned three USA South defensive player of the week awards and three players earned all-conference honors, including two on the first team.

Before arriving at Methodist, Humphrey was the assistant coach at Muhlenberg from 2021 to 2023. At Muhlenberg, he worked with four All-Americans and 13 All-Centennial Conference players.

His Muhlenberg teams made the Centennial Conference semifinals each year and hosted the program's first-ever conference tournament game in 2023. That same year, Muhlenberg was nationally ranked for the first time in program history. In 2022, Muhlenberg set a program record for season wins.

"I am extremely excited to join the William Peace family!," said Humphrey, a Homer, N.Y. native. "Thank you to Claude Shields and [Associate Athletic Director] Danielle O'Leary for their clarity and candidness throughout this hiring process. I believe we share a vision for the growth and success of our lacrosse program. I can't wait to start working with the men that are on campus now and build from this solid foundation."

Prior to Muhlenberg, Humphrey coached various high school sports for 20 years in the state of New York including lacrosse, football, softball and wrestling. His biggest highlights were at Chenango Valley High School (2018-21) where he was head boys' lacrosse coach.

His lacrosse teams reached the Section IV finals twice, winning the title in 2021 for the first time in school history. At Chenango Valley, Humphrey coached 24 all-division performers, two all-state players and one U.S. Lacrosse Scholastic All-American. Thirteen players went on to play collegiately.

In addition to his lacrosse coaching achievements, Humphrey coached several football, softball, and wrestling championship teams in various roles on the prep level, including two state football titles as assistant coach at Susquehanna Valley High School.

Humphrey graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
