Men's Soccer Opens With Two Games In Three Days Starting Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace ventures to Averett for its men's soccer season opener on Friday, Aug. 30.

The non-conference game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Danville, Va. It will be the first of two games in three days for the Pacers, who visit Guilford on Sunday, Sept. 1, in Greensboro, N.C., at 1 p.m.

Another successful year is predicted for the Pacers, ranked second in the USA South Conference preseason poll this week. They will look to extend their streak of six consecutive winning seasons under Head Coach Ryan Huber.

The Pacers bring back 17 veterans from last year's 10-5-3 team, including all-conference players Jorge Lemus (forward), Gavin Beaupre (midfielder/defender), Joey Hurley (defender) and Kwame Semackor (defender). Lemus, the 2022 USA South player of the year, needs one goal to become the program's career leader in goals. A three-time all-region and all-conference player, Lemus has 37 career goals entering the Averett contest.

Both Averett and Guilford play in the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Averett is ranked eighth and Guilford is picked 13th in the ODAC preseason poll.  In 2023, William Peace tied Averett 2-2 and beat Guilford 2-1 with both games taking place in Cary, N.C.
