Student-Athletes Honored At DERBY'S Awards

Samantha Autry, Beau Bryant and Emma Avery Win Top Awards
RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace Athletics held its annual DERBY'S Sports Awards at the Hermann Athletic Center on Wednesday, May 1. The event recognized the student-athletes' achievements for the 2023-24 season.

Charlie Dobbins was honored with a highlight slide show for his 25 years of service as the head softball coach. Dobbins is retiring at the end of the season.

Below are the event winners.


Jeannie Grey Bierce Award
 (Given annually to one female student-athlete deemed to have had the greatest impact on the University's athletic program during the current academic year) - Emma Avery (Women's Soccer)
 
Outstanding Male Athlete Award
 (Given annually to one Male student-athlete deemed to have had the greatest impact on the University's athletic program during the current academic year) - Beau Bryant (Men's Basketball)

Frazier Cup
(Awarded annually to the individual who best exemplifies the characteristics of the term student-athlete. Nominees must be classified as a junior by the University and have a cumulative G.P.A. of not less than 3.0. Community service, leadership (both on and off of the court), sportsmanship, and participation in non-athletic campus activities will all be considered.) - Samantha Autry (Women's Swimming and Women's Lacrosse)

 
Female Rookie of the Year: Mia Rumachik (Women's Soccer)
Male Rookie of the Year: Ryan Lominack (Men's Basketball) and Ian Williams (Men's Golf)
Newcomer of the Year: Tanaesha Ellison (Women's Basketball)
Male Performance of the Year: Nick Bernard winning the individual title and leading the Pacers to the team title in the Glenn Heath Memorial Tournament on April 16.
Female Performance of the Year: Tanaesha Ellison's triple-double of 33 points, 24 rebounds and 11 steals vs. Mary Baldwin on Jan. 6, 2024.
Regular-Season Game of the Year: The women's lacrosse team's come-from-behind 10-9 overtime win over Sweet Briar on March 26, 2024.
