Pacers Sweep Salem In Softball Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – William Peace took care of business against Salem on Saturday, winning both games to sweep the USA South softball doubleheader on Saturday.

The Pacers won the first game 13-2 and the second game 5-2. They are on a four-game win streak with two games left in the regular season.

"It was a nice road doubleheader sweep today," WPU Head Coach Charlie Dobbins said. "These wins move us into a strong position [in the USA South standings] as we head towards the conference tournament."

Preston Hawkins and Logan Ayers led the Pacers offensively in the first game. Hawkins went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, and Ayers went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Taryn Shelton batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Ayers hit a two-run double and Hawkins added a one-run double in the fifth inning as the Pacers led 12-1. The contest was stopped after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Reagan Stewart scattered eight hits in five innings with six strikeouts, one walk and one earned run for the pitching win. The Pacers tallied 15 hilts in the first game.

The second game was much closer but the Pacers were still victorious. Erin Miles smacked an RBI double to tie the score at 1-1 in the second inning.

Ayers hit an RBI single and Megan McAnany connected on a two-run single for a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. Salem scored a run in the sixth inning but McAnany added an insurance run on an error in the seventh.
