RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace officially qualified for the USA South Conference Softball Tournament after completing its regular season on Saturday.
The Pacers, seeded eighth, will face top seed and host Pfeiffer on Thursday, May 2, at 12 p.m. in the first game of a four-team, double elimination tournament in Misenheimer, N.C. Southern Virginia, seeded fifth, and No. 4 seed Mary Baldwin will play in the second game at 2:30 p.m.
The USA South Tournament consists of the top eight teams in the 10-team league with the top two seeds each hosting a four-team double elimination tournament. The two tournament winners will meet in a best-of-three championship series the following week at the site of the higher-seeded team.
Both William Peace and Meredith finished the regular season with 8-10 conference marks but the Pacers (20-20 overall) were slotted in the eighth seed after falling to Greensboro at the WPU Softball Complex 10-1 and 8-4 on Senior Day.
Adanya Day hit an RBI single to score Logan Ayers in the fifth inning for the Pacers' only run in the first game. Day blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the final score in the second game.
Reagan Stewart and Megan McAnany each collected an RBI, both in the fourth inning, and Cierra Lear and Day both scored two runs in the second game.
Five Pacers were honored on Senior Day before the first game. The seniors were Logan Ayers, Erin Miles, Lydia Hunt, Preston Hawkins and Reanna Braswell.
