Pacers Advance In USA South Softball Tournament

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – No. 8 seed William Peace tallied 20 a season-high hits to trounce No. 5 seed Southern Virginia 12-5 to remain alive in the USA South Bracket 1 Softball Tournament on Thursday.

The Pacers will face either top-seed Pfeiffer or No. 4 seed Mary Baldwin at Jack Ingram Field in the four-team, double-elimination tournament on Friday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

The Pacers bounced back from a 9-1 first-round loss to Pfeiffer earlier in the day. They jumped on Southern Virginia early in the elimination round, taking a 6-0 lead in their first at-bat. William Peace maintained its lead throughout the contest to oust the Knights.

Lydia Hunt went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Preston Hawkins batted 5-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. Megan McAnany produced two runs and two RBIs and Reagan Stewart went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

Cierra Lear batted 2-for-4 with one double and two runs scored and Logan Ayers went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Stewart threw 6.2 innings to gain the pitching victory.

Lear hit a solo homer in the opening-game loss to Pfeiffer.
