Miracle League Had A Ball At Pacers Baseball Game Sunday

CARY, N.C. – William Peace played baseball and did community service on the same day.

The Pacers hosted nationally ranked Chistopher Newport at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Sunday. Before the non-conference game started, they honored the Miracle League of the Triangle players and families.

The William Peace baseball team has a strong relationship with the Miracle League, which was established in 2006 to create positive life experiences for children and adults with special needs and their families through baseball and softball, according to its website, mltriangle.com. The Miracle League currently serves over 620 players on 42 teams since its first game in September 2006.

The Pacers have volunteered at Miracle League games and mentored the players since 2016. On Sunday, it was the Miracle League's turn to be in the spotlight. They ran bases with the Pacers before the start of the collegiate game against Christopher Newport.

Once the game began, the Pacers fell behind before falling 10-0 to Christopher Newport, ranked 14th nationally in Division III. The contest was secondary, however, to the Miracle League's appearance at the game.

Approximately 25 players showed up to watch the Pacers. They enjoyed talking and hanging out with the college players.

"Getting to go down on the field with WPU is a big draw," said Miracle League's Director of Baseball Operations Cyndy Vagle on Friday. "Hanging out with the Pacers on their turf is a treat."

The smiles on the kids' faces said it all.
