Pacers Win 14-2, 16-2 To Sweep Mary Baldwin In Doubleheader, Series

CARY, N.C. – William Peace got a much-needed series sweep against Mary Baldwin at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

The Pacers beat their USA South Conference opponent 14-2 in the first game and 16-2 in the second game on Monday to win all three contests in the two-day series. William Peace won the series opener 8-0 on Sunday.

The Pacers (8-12 overall) outscored the Fighting Squirrels 38-4 in three games to move up the USA South baseball standings. They are in a two-way tie for third place at 4-2.

"We are back in the mix," Pacers Head Coach Charlie Long said. "I was impressed with our pitching, offense and defense."

The Pacers' win on Sunday carried over into Monday's doubleheader. They fell behind briefly before exploding for runs in both games. With all three phases clicking, the only question was how many runs would the Pacers score on Mary Baldwin (1-4 USA South, 4-14 overall)?

William Peace combined for 44 hits in three games, including 28 hits in Monday's doubleheader. The Pacers limited Mary Baldwin to 15 hits, including 10 hits in the twinbill. Both games ended in seven innings because of the 12-run mercy rule.

Nick Tubolino went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Pacers in the first game. Four Pacers drove in two runs each – Cameron Barefoot, Nick Tyler, Cole Thompson, and Tyler Stocksdale.

Jack Dacunto scored three runs and three Pacers scored two runs in addition to Tubolino – Tyler, Adam Joseph, and Thompson. Grady Swinson (2-0) scattered five hits and gave up one earned run in six innings for the win.

Joseph finished 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored for the Pacers in the second game. Barefoot went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored, and Thompson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Dacunto scored three runs and Kyle Peters and Alex Levesque scored two runs apiece.

Maxwell Kasprowicz (2-0) allowed five hits while striking out four and walking one in five innings for the victory.

The Pacers return to the USA Baseball National Training Complex for a three-game league series against Greensboro this weekend. The first game is Friday, March 29, at 3 p.m.
