The Miracle League of the Triangle Will Be A Special Guest At Pacers Softball Doubleheader Sunday

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace and Guilford are not the only teams who will be at Sunday's softball doubleheader.

The Miracle League of the Triangle will be a special guest at the twinbill. The first game begins at 12 p.m. followed by the second game at 2 p.m. on the WPU Softball Field.

This is the first time the Miracle League will be a special guest at a William Peace softball game. The Miracle League was established in 2004 to create positive life experiences for children and adults with special needs and for their families through baseball and softball, according to its website, mltriangle.com.
The organization serves nearly 500 players with special needs on 30 teams between three fields each season.

"William Peace softball has volunteered at the Miracle League every year I can remember since I've been a coach here," said Head Coach Charlie Dobbins, in his 25th year at WPU. "This gives our athletes an opportunity to give back to a community that loves baseball and softball. Inviting them to our campus and allowing these athletes to watch their "buddies " play the game will do a lot in providing self-esteem and pride within the Miracle League schedules. It is also an amazing opportunity for our girls to give back."

The Miracle League athletes will participate in pre-game festivities. An athlete will run out on the field with a William Peace starter when the lineups are announced, and a Miracle League player is scheduled to sing the national anthem. Cyndy Vagle, the Director of Baseball Operations for the Miracle League of the Triangle, says the ages of the Miracle League athletes will range from six to 46 on Sunday.

"Going out on the field with the Pacers before the game begins is a real treat for the Miracle League players," Vagle said. "They are thrilled for the opportunity. The smiles and memories are going to be awesome. Coach Dobbins and his team have been to Miracle League fields to volunteer with our athletes numerous times in the past so it's great to be able to see [the Pacers] in action at their own field."

Pacers shortstop Logan Ayers can't wait to see the Miracle League players, some who she's known from past volunteer events.

"The softball program at William Peace University absolutely loves volunteering at the Miracle League," Ayers, a senior, said. "The team volunteers every fall and it is always such a rewarding experience. We have a great time playing the game with others and building connections. I have volunteered with the team since my sophomore year and every year I see familiar faces. I'm excited to see some of the same people I have partnered up with before on Sunday."

"It's going to be such a great time for everyone," Ayers added. "William Peace softball loves the Miracle League!"
