Hylton, Smiley Honored On Senior Day Against Greensboro

RALEIGH, N.C. – Keslee Hylton and Nautica Smiley were honored on Senior Day in William Peace's 69-61 women's basketball loss to Greensboro at the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday.

Both players, escorted by their families, received framed jerseys and flower bouquets from Head Coach Lori Drake and Assistant Coach Sabrina Shepherd. Hylton is a three-sport player in volleyball, basketball and lacrosse and has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Smiley was a member of the 2019-20 basketball team that won the USA South East Division title. That squad became the first-ever William Peace team in any sport to reach the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Both players started and teamed up for a bucket against Greensboro in the first period. Smiley threw a pass in the paint to Hylton, who scored the layup for a 5-0 Pacers lead.

William Peace (4-10 USA South, 6-14 overall) led 18-13 heading into the second period. A cold spell turned the tide in favor of Greensboro, who led 32-22 at the half.

The Pacers' deficit stayed in double digits in the third period, but standout guard Tanaesha Ellison sparked a fourth-period run. She helped cut the margin from 16 to nine in a three-minute span. The rally slowed, however, and the Pacers could get no closer than seven points (66-59) on Ellison's layup with 49 seconds left.

Ellison finished with 24 points, 18 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and three assists for the Pacers, who connected on 23 of 30 free throws for 76.7 percent. Hannah Lewis added 12 points and Smiley netted nine points and five assists. Tamera Hooker came off the bench to score 18 points for Greensboro (6-8 USA South, 6-15 overall).

William Peace will host crosstown rival Meredith in the Play 4 Kay Game on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Hermann Athletic Center at 5:30 p.m. This will be the Pacers' final home appearance of the regular season.
