Fayetteville, NC -- The William Peace University baseball team opened the 2021 season with a doubleheader sweep of Methodist University, winning game one 7-5 and game two 16-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
3rd - Tyshawn Barrett would get the Pacers on the board at the top of the third with a double to right center, scoring
Nathan Holt and
Jackson May to put WPU up 2-0.
4th - A sacrifice bunt by
Jake Norris would score
Patrick Rogan and increase the Pacer lead to 3-0.
Sam Peddycord would strike out three in the bottom of the inning to keep Methodist off of the scoreboard.
5th and 6th - Gavin Taylor would drive one out of left field for a home run at the top of the 5th, giving the Pacers a 4-0 edge. The bottom of the 5th and 6th would be huge for the Monarchs as a few singles and stolen bases would give them a 5-4 lead over the Pacers.
9th - Alec Seaton would tie the game 5-5 at the top of the 9th with a homerun to left field. A single by
Tyshawn Barrett would score both
Jackson May and
Jake Norris to bring the score to 7-5 and secure the win.
Game Two
2nd - A triple by
Nathan Holt would get the Pacers going at the top of 2nd, bringing home
Gavin Taylor and
Jackson May for a 2-0 lead.
Tyshawn Barrett's double would bring home Holt and increase the lead to 3-0.
3rd - Sean Roseborough would score on a throwing error, while
Gavin Taylor's single would bring the score to 6-0. A single by
Hunter Ward would add another run for the Pacers to lead 7-0.
4th - The Monarchs would add a single run in the 4th, with the Pacer defense coming up strong to keep a 7-1 lead.
5th - The Pacers would have a big 5th inning, with a double by
Kevin Gonzalez and a few walks giving the Pacers a 12-1 lead.
Nathan Holt and
Tyshawn Barrett would both double to left field, giving the Pacers an impressive 16-1 lead.
6th and 9th - The Monarchs would attempt to close the gap, cutting the Pacer lead down to 16-9, but the Pacers would close out the game to win 16-9.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS
- Gavin Taylor and Alec Seaton each recorded a homerun in game one, with Seaton going 3 for 4 at the plate. Taylor would go 3 for 3 in game two, adding two RBIs.
- Tyshawn Barrett tallied 4 RBIs in game one, going 4 for 5 in game two with two RBIs.
- Nathan Holt would add 4 RBIs in game two.
- Sam Peddycord would tally 6 strikeouts in game one, while Austin Skipper would record 5 in game two.
FOR THE FOES
- Spencer Nelson recorded 2 RBIs in game one while he went for 3 for 5 in game two.
- Wesley Hall and Ryan Hill would each add 2 RBIs in game two.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will host Roanoke College on February 21st in another doubleheader contest. The games are scheduled for 12 and 3PM.
