Cary, NC -- The William Peace University baseball team split a doubleheader series with Roanoke College. The Pacers would fall 6-5 in extra innings in the first game, but would pick up a 6-3 win in game two after gaining an early lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
1st - Tyshawn Barrett would score the first run as he made it to home on a passed ball to give WPU a 1-0 lead.
3rd - Roanoke would tie things up 1-1 as pitcher
Philip Berger put in a strong performance on the mound to keep the game tied.
6th - Roanoke would take a 2-1 lead at the top of the inning after getting the bases loaded. The Pacers would score four runs in the bottom of the inning to take back a 5-2 lead.
Patrick Rogan would bring in two runs on his single to left field, while
Alec Seaton would bring home Rogan on a double.
Kevin Gonzalez would bring home Seaton to send the Pacers into the 7th leading 5-2.
7th, 8th, 9th and 10th - Despite strong play from the Pacer defense, Roanoke would add a run at the top of the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to tie the game 5-5 and send it to extra innings. A single by the Maroons at the top of the tenth combined with strong pitching at the bottom of the inning would secure them the 6-5 win.
Game Two
1st - Hunter Ward's single to center field would get the Pacers going at the start of the game to lead 1-0.
2nd - Jackson May would score stealing home to increase the lead to 2-0 as pitcher Patrick Rogan began to tally up the strikeouts for the Pacers, keeping the Maroons off the scoresheet.
3rd - The Pacers would get the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, with Alec Seaton's walk bringing in Tyshawn Barrett to lead 3-0.
5th - A single by Sean Roseborough combined with an error would bring home Logan Barbour, while Gavin Taylor's single would bring home Seaton and Roseborough to lead 6-0.
6th and 7th - The Maroons would add a few runs in the 6th and 7th, but the Pacers would continue to put up strong defensive play to clinch the 6-3 win.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS
FOR THE FOES
- Pitcher Lingenfel tallied 7 strikeouts, 2 runs, and 3 hits in game one for the Maroons.
- Merriken was 3 for 5 in game one.
- Plunkett went 4 for 5 in game two with 2 RBIs.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will host the University of Lynchburg on February 27th at 12 and 3PM in another doubleheader.
