Pacers Move On To Semifinals With 3-1 Win Over Hawks

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University men's soccer defeated Huntingdon College 3-1 in the First Round of the USA South Conference Tournament. The Pacers will host the final four of the tournament, taking on the Covenant Scots in the semifinals while hosting the matchup between the Averett Cougars and the NCWC Battling Bishops at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pacers would control possession early, with Jorge Lemus and Ivan putting several shots on goalkeeper Joshua Burton. Jacob Smith would make several early saves in the first half as neither team was able to find any traction. The Hawks would get a penalty kick opportunity at 33:22, but Kelan LeBlanc's shot would go high. A minute later, Bloody Samlouius would take advantage of a misplay by the Hawks' defense to put the Pacers up 1-0.

In the second half, a tricky shot from Ivan Ponce at 53:16 would put the Pacers up 2-0. Jacob Smith would continue to be strong for the Pacers, shutting down the Hawks. At 67:03, Smith would stop the initial shot on the breakaway for the Hawks, but it would deflect out and Thad Lievens would tap it in to bring the score to 2-1. The Pacers would respond just 4 minutes later, as Jorge Lemus would take control from the Hawks defense to take a shot out wide, putting the Pacers up 3-1. The Pacers would keep up the pressure, taking a 3-1 win over the Hawks and securing them an appearance in the semifinals.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Thad Lievens would score the lone goal for the Hawks.
  • Joshua Burton tallied 5 saves for the Hawks.

The Pacers will host the semifinals and the championship game next week, taking on the Covenant Scots on Friday, November 5th.
