HOW IT HAPPENED

The Scots who came in as the #2 seed from the West Division would put themselves ahead at the 15:13 mark in the game. Jake Major would gather a loose ball on the left side of the pitch after two missed clearances from the Pacers. Major's shot would deflect off a defender and find the back of the net to give the Scots the 1-0 lead. The Pacers would however respond three minutes later and level the score at 1-1. A set piece from the left side would find Jorge Lemus at the back post, Lemus would nod it down to a trailing Alex Hernandez at the near post who would head it home.

It would be a back and forth game with ups and downs for both teams. Senior forward Mercer Stout would find the back of the net to give Covenant the lead at 2-1 with 14 minutes left in the first half of play. The Scot's lead would once again be short lived as the Pacer's would draw a Penalty kick 15 seconds later off of a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Danny Alvarez would step up and bury it top right past Scot's keeper Henry Hooks to bring the game level at 2-2. Neither team would be able to find a clear opportunity the rest of the half as the we would go into halftime all tied at 2 a piece.

The second half would see the Pacers start on the front foot as Sophomore standout Jorge Lemus would pick off a pass in the Scot's defensive third. Lemus dribbled past three defenders and found himself at the top of the 18 on his left foot. Lemus would then slot through Jorge Aguliar inside the 18. Aguilar would then drive a one time cross back to Lemus who would drive it home to give the Pacers a 3-2 lead. The score line would remain the same for the majority of the second half as the Pacers battled to keep the lead. The Pacers would hold the shot advantage in the second half at 7-3 but could not widen their lead. With time winding down the Scots would push forward looking for the equalizer. It would be center back Jay Patterson with under five minutes left ,who would find the equalizer after he would get on the end of a loose ball at the top of the Pacers 18 yard box. Patterson would dribble past two Pacer defenders and finish far post.

The game would head to overtime where neither team really created any real offensive opportunities. As the game appeared to be headed to penalty kicks with just 15 seconds left on the clock Mercer Stout would find himself inside the 18 and send a right footed cross through the box and found Jake Major who would send it home and propel the Scots into the USA South Championship game.
