Pacers Pick Up Big Conference Win Over Maryville

In the conference match-up between the William Peace Pacers and the Maryville Scots, the game started as a back-and-forth, but the Pacers pulled away late in the first half and extended the lead early in the second half. The Pacer offense proved to be too much for the Scots, and the Pacer defense held off the Scots for the rest of the game. The Pacers walked away with a conference win to improve their USA South record to (8-5) and their overall record to (10-11).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers and Scots went back-and-forth early in the first half and kept the score tight. A monstrous dunk by Trey Bryant electrified the gym and sparked the Pacer momentum. A 3-pointer from Camden Ferguson gave the Pacers a four point lead (8-4). Camden Ferguson also drew a foul behind the arc and went (3-3) to maintain the Pacer lead. The Scots responded by hitting their own pair of free throws. Donolly Tyrell Jr. extended the Pacer lead with a drive to the basket to put the Pacers up (15-9). The Scots would battle back and tie the game at (15-15) with a pair of jumpers from mid-range and a drive to the basket.
  • Camden Ferguson put the Pacers back up (18-15) with a shot from behind the arc. The Scots once again had a response with a layup to put the Scots within one (18-17). The Pacers continued to go back-and-forth until the Pacers pulled away by going on a (18-4) scoring run with shots from behind the arc by Beau Bryant and Camden Ferguson. Beau Bryant also contributed an and-1 to the run as well as a free throw. The Pacers went into halftime up (48-31).
  • In the second half, the Pacers continued to push the momentum with a drive from Trey Bryant and a jumper from John Burwell. The Scots had no response to cut the Pacer lead. John Burwell hit a jumper and an and-1 in back-to-back drives to extend the Pacer lead (58-35). Later on, Camden Ferguson had a pair of offensive drives with a shot from behind the arc and a layup to maintain the Pacer lead (70-48). 
  • The Scots had an offensive push that cut the Pacer lead to 12 (70-58), but Camden Ferguson hit a 3-pointer, drove to the basket for two, and had a pair of free throws to put the Pacers back in a comfortable lead (77-58). Ti'Quan Whitmore continued the Pacer offensive push with his own shot from behind the arc to put the Pacers up (80-58). The Pacers maintained the lead with a 3-pointer from Tyson Sellers and a layup from Denadre Thomas to put the score at (89-61). Drives from Josh Hubert and Deandre Thomas extended the Pacer lead. A big shot from behind the arc by Ben Maske put the Pacers up (98-66) with less than a minute left in the game. The Pacers would win (98-67). 

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Camden Ferguson posted 30 points by going (9-13) from behind the arc and shooting 69.2% from the field. He also went 100% from the free throw line to contribute to his total points. 
  • Trey Bryant tallied 14 points and 9 rebounds and also went 100% from the foul line.

FOR THE FOES
  • Felix Uadiale posted 9 rebounds and 8 points.
  • Kordell Kah contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds. 
 
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers were 45.6% from the field in comparison to Maryville's 33.3%.
  • WPU went 92.6% from the free throw line.

NEXT GAME
The Pacers will travel to Huntingdon College for another USA South Conference match-up on February 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM in the Catherine Dixon Roland Arena.
