T.Bryant's Double-Double Propels William Peace to Win over Pfeiffer

Misenheimer,NC--The William Peace University men's basketball team defeated Pfeiffer University in a USA South Conference match-up by a score of (111-95). This is the sixth win in a row for the Pacers and win number 11 in the USA South. With the win the Pacers also move into second place in the USA South East Division with one game remaining in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pacers quickly got the game started as Trey Bryant would win the tip off and would get the first points for the Pacers by scoring a contested layup (2-0). Camden Ferguson would hit his first three of the night and quickly extend the Pacers lead to 5. Trey Bryant would score the next 7 points for the Pacers to keep them in the game as the Falcons went on an 11-7 run. Scoring would be even between both teams throughout the first ten minutes of the game, as both teams would trade baskets. Tyson Sellers would begin to extend the lead for the Pacers with a coast-to-coast dunk (22-18). The lead would be short lived as the Falcons quickly responded with a 3 pointer from Juwan Blanton.

  • A couple of fouls on both sides and made free throws would lead to the score staying close. Camden Ferguson's back to back 3-pointers would give the Pacers some momentum but again the Falcons would answer. After an 11-4 run from Pfeiffer to give them a (43-38) lead. The Pacers would fight back as they trailed by as many as 7 down the stretch in the first half. Tyson Sellers would have a monstrous dunk in traffic to tie the game at (47-47). Trey Bryant would cap off an 8-2 run to end the first half with a free throw with 25 seconds left. After an intense first half, the Pacers lead the Falcons (56-54) at halftime. 

  • Seab Scott got the second half started with a free throw for the Falcons to bring Pfeiffer within one at (56-55). A 3-pointer by Camden Ferguson would extend the lead for the Pacers to 59-55.  

  • The second half would not see much change from the first half as both teams would continue to trade baskets in a very fast paced game. Back to back 3-pointers from Camden Ferguson would give the Pacers the lead at (81-79) with less than 10 minutes left in the half. This would kickstart a game changing 16-2 run from William Peace. The offensive explosion from the Pacers would give them a 91-81 lead with under 8 minutes remaining in the second half.

  • The Pacers would continue their hot shooting down the stretch in the second half as they would widen their lead to 12 points. Tyson Sellers would put the exclamation mark on the Pacer's offensive run with another massive dunk after the team broke the full court press and widened the lead to (100-88). The Pacers would hold off the Falcons down the stretch as they closed out another USA South Conference win.

  • Juwan Blanton finished with a team high 16 points.

  • The Falcons finished with 5 different players with 10 or more points.

STATS OF THE GAME 

  • The Pacers shot at 50.7% from the field in comparison to the Falcons' 46.3%

  • WPU would find success in the paint as they finished with 50 points in the paint compared to Pfeiffer's 30.

The Pacers will play next in Raleigh, NC to face Greensboro College in the Hermann Athletic Center on February 22nd. Tip-off is scheduled for 2PM.
