Raleigh, NC -- USA Softball of North Carolina recently announced that Coach Charlie Dobbins will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. When you think William Peace Softball one name always comes to mind, Charlie Dobbins. Coach Dobbins will enter his 21st year with William Peace University softball in the 2019-2020 season.

Dobbins came to Peace in 1999 and has amassed over 400 wins in 20 seasons. In his coaching career at WPU, he has had over 60 USA South All Conference and 15 NFCA All Region selections, and 168 Academic All-Conference and 61 Academic All American members. He has also coached 1 Rookie of the Year, 4 All-Tournament selections, and 4 East Division First Team selections. Dobbins contribution to the game of Softball in the triangle goes far beyond the softball field that he built in downtown Raleigh. Along with his wife Lisa Dobbins, coach Dobbins host one of the biggest Softball tournaments in the country every spring. The Grandslam Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace University Softball brings in some of the top softball programs in the country every spring to Cary, NC.

William Peace softball has consistently been a contender in the USA South Athletic Conference under the guidance of Coach Dobbins. In 2019, the team was 15-19 overall and 10-6 in the conference, eventually falling to Averett University in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. In the 2015 season, Dobbins coached the Pacers to the final round of the tournament where they were just one win short of the title.

Coach Dobbins had this to say about his selection "I am very surprised and humbled to receive this amazing HOF recognition.Moving to NC 25 years ago from Connecticut was filled with many emotions..Excitement, apprehension, probably a little scared, but very excited to move my family to a new city and life. We as a family embraced our new home with passion and curiosity. I was fortunate to meet great people early, that helped us settle into a great life here in NC.  To look back at those 25 years, I am proud of what impact I had on the game of softball in NC. Being involved with my daughter in travel ball lead to several state titles and 3 National Championships.Meeting and working with great people like Christian Dysart, Kelly Johnson, Phil Rowe, Kevin Daniels and now Tom Curle has allowed me to build a great program at WPU.WPU athletics is growing every year, and I am glad to be a part of it.  There is one person who I need to recognize, because without her, this would have never happened. She has supported me my entire career, played team mom more times than I can count...Thank you Lisa Dobbins.... and thank you WPU community for all your support over the past 21 years…"

The induction ceremony will take place on November 1st, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Alamance Country Club. Congratulations to Coach Dobbins!
