Newport News,Va--William Peace volleyball team found their first loss of the season on the road after falling to the Captains of Christopher Newport University. CNU defeated the Pacers in three sets (15-25, 16-25, 16-25).
The first set would start fairly even as the Captains and Pacers went point for point, but after the Pacers tied it up at 4-4 the Captains would pull away with a five point streak bringing the score to 4-9 in favor of the Captains. The Pacers would get a point back to break up Christopher Newport's run on an attacking error by CNU. The Captains would follow with another three point run bringing the score to 5-12. The Pacers would continue to benefit from errors by the Captains but they would be unable to get any offense going and would ultimately drop the first set 15-25.
The Captains came out strong in the beginning of set two and quickly found themselves with the 2-7 lead. Notably Mya Parks would bring the score to 7-12 with her fifth kill of the game and her 1000th career kill as a Pacer. The Pacers would continue to struggle and allow the Captains to pull away with an 11 point lead 10-21. But the Pacers would find their rhythm and would score 6 of the last 10 points holding off the Captains for just a bit longer before ultimately dropping the second set.
The Pacers would take their first lead of the night at the start of set three with back-to-back kills from Mya Parks putting the Pacers up 2-0. The Captains would answer back with two points of their own before the Pacers would regain the 3-2 lead again on a service error from CNU. The Captains would start to pull away scoring five points in a row. Later on the Pacers would go on a four point streak of their own and cut the lead to four (15-19). That would be the end of the offensive attack from the Pacers and they would drop the third and final set to the Captains.
