Lexington, VA -- The William Peace University women's volleyball team defeated Mount Aloysius (3-0) before falling to Washington and Lee University (1-3) on September 21st. The Pacers now hold a 10-2 record.
Game One
In set one, the Pacers would start off strong with a 4-2 lead. The first set was a back-and-forth contest, with a kill by junior
Brittany Carpenter tying the set at 11. Neither team would get a strong lead, and the set would be tied at 20-20 on a kill from senior
Mya Parks. The Pacers grabbed a late offensive edge over the Mounties and won the set 25-22 on a kill by junior
Brienna Laskowski.
The Mounties would take an early 5-3 lead in the second set, eventually controlling the set with a 14-8 advantage. The Pacers recorded 4 consecutive points on kills from
Brienna Laskowski and sophomore
Jasmine Smith to cut to the lead 14-12. A service ace by senior
Sarah Scott tied the set at 15, while another service ace by junior
Abby Benton gave the Pacers an 18-16 lead. The end of the set was another back-and-forth as the teams were tied at 25, but two attack errors allowed the Pacers to take the set by a score of 27-25.
In the third and final set, the Pacers tallied seven consecutive points to lead 9-3, with
Mya Parks recording her 1000th career dig. The Pacers continued to control the third set, going on a 5-point run to lead 20-16 on kills from
Brienna Laskowski and
Abby Benton. The Mounties had a late challenge, but the Pacers were able to hold on for a 25-20 win to clinch the game 3-0.
Game Two
In the first set, the Pacers would grab the first point to lead 1-0. A service ace from junior
Bergin Gillespie gave WPU a 6-4 lead over Washington and Lee. The Pacers went on a 5-point run on kills by
Abby Benton and junior
Brianna Davis to lead 11-5. They continued to dominate in the first set with another six consecutive points to lead 18-8. A kill from
Abby Benton would finish the set at 25-12.
The Generals came out with an offensive push in the second set to lead 3-1.
Jasmine Smith would cut the lead with a kill as the Pacers trailed 11-9. The Generals tallied seven in a row to take a dominant 17-9 lead. WPU was unable to finish a late push and fell in the second set 25-18, which tied the match at 1.
The third set saw the Generals take a controlling 8-2 lead early. Kills by freshman
Emerson Scollo and
Sarah Scott kept WPU in the set as they trailed 12-8. Washington and Lee recorded four consecutive points to lead WPU 21-11. The Pacers would go on an offensive run but they were unable to catch up and lost 25-18 in the third set, which gave the Generals a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth and final set, Washington and Lee again took an early 4-0 lead. A kill by freshman
Shelby Cooper cut the lead to 8-5, but Washington and Lee continued to hold the offensive advantage and won the set 25-16, which gave them a 3-1 victory over the Pacers.

- In game one, Emma Pavarnik had 31 assists for Mount Aloysius, while Kylee Clawson had 20 digs.
- Brynne Gould recorded 20 kills for the Generals, while Anna Soroka notched 46 assists.
What's Next
The Pacers will head to Rocky Mount, NC on September 24th to face NC Wesleyan (3-7). The game begins at 7 p.m.
