Women's Lacrosse Falls to Piedmont College

The Basics:
  • Final Score: William Peace 9 Piedmont 15
  • Records: William Peace 8-4 (5-4 USAS) Piedmont 8-6 (7-2 USAS)
  • Location: Demorest, GA

How it Happened:
  • The Lions opened with a goal three minutes in, but Allison Schaper would tie the game up just seconds later.
  • In the following three minutes, the Lions would go on a 4-0 run. Dana Florian would score on a free position shot to slow the Piedmont run, but the Lions would be deterred only briefly.
  • Piedmont went on another 4-0 run in the following ten minutes.
  • After a brief offensive drought from the Pacers, Rylie Toomey scored with 4:28 left in the first half of the game. Allison Schaper followed suit with a goal in the final thirty seconds, to head into halftime, down 9-4.
  • The Lions would score quick to open the second half. Dana Florian scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Kirsten Dunham with 22:04 remaining.
  • The Pacers and Lions would trade goals throughout the remainder of the period, with William Peace always coming within five to seven goals of Piedmont.
  • The Pacers would fall, 15-9.

Pacer Top Performers:
  • Allison Schaper finished with a team high, four goals and eleven shots on goal.
  • Rylie Toomey finished with a hat trick, eight ground balls, and one assist.
  • Dana Florian tallied two goals and one assist and six ground balls.

For the Foes:
  • Emma Fransen finished with four goals and one assist.
  • Macey Higgins tallied three goals and one assist.
  • Mattie Keaton had 17 saves in net for the Lions.

Stats of the Game:
  • The Pacers and Lions found an evenly matched offense as the Pacers took 38 shots  to the Lions' 36.
  • The Pacers tallied 37 ground balls.
  • Piedmont won 14 draw controls to the Pacers 12.

William Peace University women's lacrosse will be back in action on Sunday, April 14, against Brevard College, weather permitting. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Brevard, NC.
