Volleyball Faces Loss on the Road to Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA -- The William Peace University women's volleyball team fell to the University of Lynchburg by a score of 3-0 on October 4th, 2019. The Pacers now drop to a record of 11-5.

The Pacers struggled to get anything going against a tough offensive start from the Hornets who would grab a quick 7-0 lead. Brienna Laskowski would tally two kills to get the Pacers on the board, but Lynchburg continued to dominate and led 14-3. A kill by Brianna Davis would be the last point the Hornets would allow the Pacers as they claimed a 25-9 win in set one.

In the second set, a kill by Emerson Scollo and a couple of attack errors by the Hornets would get WPU a 3-1 lead. The second set was more of a back-and-forth, as Brittany Carpenter tied it 16-16 with a kill. Another kill by Carpenter would give the Pacers a 20-17 advantage as they continued their offensive push. Lynchburg would dig in and tally six in a row to win set two 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third and final set was tied early 2-2 on a kill by Brianna Davis. The Hornets began to pull away, recording seven consecutive points for a 18-9 lead over WPU. Brienna Laskowski and Nancy Gamewell were able to bring the Pacers back within 3 as they trailed 24-21 in the set, but Lynchburg would collect the next point to win 25-21 and lock down the match 3-0.

The Breakdown The Foes
  • Sydney Frink had 8 kills for the Hornets.
