FERRUM, V.A. -- The William Peace University men's soccer program took on Ferrum College on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader following the WPU women's soccer team.
The first half proved to be an aggressive start to the action with both teams finding opportunities in the attack. The Pacers took five shots in the first half with three of those shots being shots on goal by Alfredo Martinez, Oscar Aguirre, and Daniel Garcia. Jacob Smith have several key saves in goal for the Pacers after the Panthers had three shots in the first half with two shots on goal.
The second half would begin to heat up with both teams as the Panther offense would light up the scoreboard first. Panthers forward, Mbambi Mbongu would weave through several Pacer defenders to execute a shot kicked in just passed the hands of Smith in goal. The Panthers would lead 1-0 with 33:40 remaining in the game. Just one minute following the Panther goal,

Ivan Ponce on the right side of the field where Ponce then placed the ball up and over the Panther keeper to even the score, 1-1.
The game would be a physical match-up between the two teams as four yellow cards were given throughout the game. After several close calls by both teams, the Pacers would head into the end of regulation, tied 1-1. Overtime would begin after a brief moment of rest for both teams. As both teams showed moments of fatigue throughout the overtime period, both Pacers and Panthers had equal shot opportunities. After a header from Aaron Latigue missed wide, the Panthers came back down field to take a shot of their own, missing wide. In the 97th minute, Mbambi Mbongu and Sam May would break through the Pacer defense. Mbongu would find May who would beat Smith in goal for the Pacers to score the golden goal of the game to win, 2-1.

- Ivan Ponce had one goal with three shots total and two shots on goal.
- Oscar Aguirre came off the bench for two shots with one shot on goal.

- The Panthers tallied 13 shots with four shots on goal.
- Sam May would have two shots on goal and one goal for the Panthers.
- Mbambi Mbongu would have one goal, two shots and one assist.
What's Next?
The Pacers are back in action on Wednesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. when they take on Pfeiffer University at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Falcons hold a record of 2-1 on the season thus far and this contest with the Pacers will mark the first conference game for both teams.
