Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pacers Tie with Tigers in Virginia

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA -- The William Peace University men's soccer team finished in a draw against Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday evening after a dueling two halves sent them into overtime.

The first goal of the game was scored by William Peace sophomore, Jacob Woodburn. His goal came in the thirty ninth minute of the matchup and is his first goal of his career at WPU. Hampden-Sydney kept William Peace goalie Jacob Smith on his toes as he gathered a big save in the twenty-ninth minute as well as multiple near missed opportunities.

Hampden-Sydney had three shots on goal and William Peace had five. The late first half goal gave the Pacers momentum going into the second half. Jacob Smith had an early save against Cody Brugos which helped set the tone for a drive down the field. Jorge Aguilar who proved to be an offensive threat throughout the night, collected a goal in the fifty-first minute to give the Pacers a 2-0 lead.

The momentum for the Pacers would soon end when Paul Mahaffy found the back of the net to put Hampden-Sydney on the board. As the Tiger momentum grew, the attack from HSC would increase and eventually connect in the eighty first minute of the game to tie the game at two.

The first over time was filled with aggressive play and an early shot on goal by Jorge Aguilar would be the only offense in the first overtime. The second overtime would be filled with missed opportunity as HSC's Cody Brugos, would get off a clean shot that was saved by Jacob Smith to keep the game alive.
