CARY, NC--- The William Peace University men's soccer team hosted Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers would best the Royals by a score of 3-0. Coming off a highly contested game versus Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday night, the Pacers came looking to secure their first win of the year.
OFFENSIVE PRESSURE
The first half opened with a few quick scoring opportunities from Eastern Mennonite. WPU goalie, Jacob Smith made an impressive save to keep the Lions out of the scoring column. Offense has not been a Pacer weakness in previous games this season and it would not be so in this game either as the Pacers jumped on the scoreboard early in the seventh minute of play. Freshman, Jorge Aguilar brought in the first goal of the game for the Pacers as Ivan Ponce would play a great ball into the box for Aguilar to put away with a great volley. Smith had two saves in the first half and the Pacers would head into the locker room with the 1-0 lead.
To start the second half the Pacers would add another goal as Ponce scored early into the second half as Aguilar would return the favor and play Ponce in behind the Royals' backline. Aguilar, would put away his second of the game after Ponce again played him in behind the defense. Aaron Latigue would have an outstanding shot on goal for the Pacers that was saved by Royals goalie, Emmanuel Kampanga. Each team would continue to put pressure on the goalies throughout the 90 minutes of play. WPU would finish with ten shots and EMU with eight. Of these shots, seven were on goal for the Pacers and two for EMU. WPU would keep the Royals off the scoreboard and would finish the game, 3-0, adding a win to their record.
