Men's Soccer Continues Conference Win-Streak Over Tornados

Brevard, NC-- The William Peace University men's soccer team defeated the Tornados' of Brevard College on a Saturday match-up in Brevard, North Carolina. The Pacers improve to a 5-0 record in conference play, adding again to their best start in program history. This game also marks a five-game winning streak for WPU.

The Pacers started off with an unfortunate foul in the box resulting in a Tornado penalty kick goal to take an early 1-0 lead. It was a physical game throughout, resulting in many fouls, but that wouldn't rattle the Pacers with their attempted shots at the goal. At the 27th minute the Pacers were on the board as well, with a goal made by Ivan Ponce with the help of Oscar Aguirre with the assist. Another key player in the first half was Jacob Smith with four saves in net for the Pacers. The Pacers would out-shoot the Tornados in the first half, 9-7.

Moving to the second period the Pacers had many attempts at the goal, but were just shy on several occasions. In the 64th minute of the second period, the Pacers' effort pushed through with a well-earned goal made by Alfredo Martinez with the help of Ivan Ponce. The Pacer defense would limit the Tornados to just two shots in the second half of play, allowing the Pacer offense to dominate the possession. The Pacers would fend off the Tornados to win, 2-1.
