Hawks' Third Period Surge Secures Victory Over Pacers

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC -- The William Peace University men's lacrosse team fell to the Huntingdon Hawks, 13-17, in their USA South conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The loss puts the Pacers at (2-5) with a conference record of (0-3). The Hawks remain the top-seed of the USA South Conference.


ABOURJILIE'S ATTACK
Austin Aubourjilie came into today's game leading the Pacers with 15 goals in 6 games. His frenetic pace continued as he added four more against the the Hawks. Abourjilie began to heat up near the end of the first period as he put one in with 30 seconds remaining in the first to put the Pacers up by two. Abourjilie then went on a goal scoring frenzy, racking up three more goals in a span of six minutes to tie it up at 7. Abourjilie's monster day pushes his goal total to 19

DEFENSIVE BATTLE FOR THE PACERS
The Pacers came into the matchup with opponents averaging over twelve goals a game. Their defensive struggles continued as they allowed 17 goals against the Huntingdon Hawks. The Pacers came off a strong defensive showing against Wabash which saw them only allow seven goals. The Pacers started off the game strong, taking a 2-0 lead early in the game. The first half saw both teams find the back of the net with ease as they headed into halftime tied at 8.  After a quick goal by Anthony Florian to put the Pacers up one early in the third, the aggressive attack from the Hawks began to unleash it's persistence. Despite a late rally from Nick Falso and AJ Aguilar with back to back goals late in the fourth period to close the Hawks lead to 16-13, the Hawks would seal the deal with one last goal in the winding seconds to close the game 17-13.

  • Samm Hitt went 22-30 on Faceoffs.
  • Mac Puller had 5 points for the Hawks (4 goals & 1 assist)
  • Matt Murphy had a game high 10 saves.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pacers will continue play at home with a match-up against Wilmington College at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14. The Quakers are currently .500 with an overall record of (1-1).
