Daniel's Late Free Throws Propel Pacers Past Bears

The Basics:

  • Final Score:WPU 86 USCGA 84

  • Records: William Peace University (6-5), 3-1 USA South, United States Coast Guard Academy (3-7), (2-1) NEWMAC

  • Location: Raleigh, NC

 

How it Happened:

  • The United States Coast Guard Academy took an early (13-5) lead in the first quarter led by Annabella Farabaugh (4 points) and Kyra Hartman (3 points).

  • In the second quarter of play, the Pacers trailed by 11 points when Deja Umstead made a nice move down low for a layup to cut the Bear's lead

  • Mariah Ballen's hustle paid off down in the paint and assisted Shania Springer. Deja Umstead followed with a big three pointer for a Pacer five nothing run.

  • The Pacers came within six points in the second quarter but trailed (38-31) at halftime

  • Mikayla Ray pushed hard in the paint to collect her fifth point of the game and the Pacers trailed by six.

  • Annabella Farabaugh extended the lead to eleven late in the third quarter as the Pacers struggled with turnovers.

  • The Pacers came out red hot in the fourth quarter led by Mikayla Ray and Khadijah Daniels

  • In the final minutes of the game, Khadijah Daniels drained a three pointer to put the Pacers within one point but Katie White responded with a three of her own.

  • Mikayla Ray would tie the with seconds remaining in the game after hitting two free throws.

  • Khadijah Daniels was fouled with seven seconds remaining and made both free throws to win the game for the Pacers.

 

Pacer Top Performers:

  • Mikayla Ray led all scorers and had a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds

  • Khadijah Daniels collected 19 points shooting 45.5% from the field

  • Deja Umstead went 3-5 from behind the arch and had 13 points

 

The Foes:

  • Annabella Farabaugh finished with a team high 24 points

  • Johanna Moolenaar collected 15 points and 7 rebounds

  • Breanna Wood led the Bears with 9 rebounds

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Pacers shot 40.3% to the Bears 45.2%
  • Pacers shot 38.5% from behind the arch to The Bears 36%
  • The Bears out rebounded the Pacers 47-37

The Pacers will be back in action on Wednesday, January 2,2019  versus USA South rival Meredith College. The Pacers come into the matchup with an overall record of (6-5), USA SOUTH (3-1). Meredith holds an overall record of (1-10).Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm in the Hermann Athletic Center.
