Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University women's basketball team fell to Methodist University (72-68) in a USA South Conference game on January 13th, 2018. The Pacers now drop to an overall record of (2-9) and a conference record of (2-3)
Shaniya Taylor would put up the first points of the game with a shot from behind the arc, but Methodist would quickly take over and lead a close first quarter. The Pacers took back the lead near the end of the first quarter with points from Jayde Grant and Mikayla Ray, and would head into the 2nd quarter leading (16-15). In the second quarter, Methodist would go on a 10-point run to lead 25-16, their largest lead of the first half, but the Pacers fought back with a 9-point run of their own. The game went into halftime tied 30-30. Kayla Goldsmith led the Monarchs with 14 points in first half, while Mikayla Ray also tallied 14 points for the Pacers.
The Pacers would control most of the second half, taking their largest lead (62-51) of the game at the 6:15 mark in the fourth quarter. However, Methodist would tie it up 65-65 with 2:12 remaining, taking the lead with 1:37 left to win the game 72-68. Methodist outrebounded WPU 55-41 while shooting 41.4% from the field.

Jayde Grant recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Battling Bishops come into the matchup with an overall record of (6-8) and a conference record of (3-3), having just defeated Meredith College.
