Box Score CARY, N.C. -- The WPU men's soccer team suffered their second conference loss to Methodist University on Wednesday evening with a final score of 3-1. The Pacers drop to (5-4-1) overall and (1-2-1) in conference.
The game got off to an exciting start with both teams facing opportunities at goal with six shots a piece in the first period.WPU's
Chris Deleon would put the Pacers on the scoreboard first with a shot inside the 18 in the 31st minute.
Methodist would answer the Pacers quickly with a goal of their own just five minutes after Deleon's, with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Pacers would enter halftime with a score of 1-1.
Following halftime both teams would rally through the heat and through many shot attempts the Pacers defense managed to keep the Monarchs out of harm's way until the 60th minute when a Monarch corner kick would result in a header scored by Methodist's Lawson Lamm. A solo shot by Monarch player, Trevor Hendricks, would seal the deal in the 73rd minute with the Pacers unable to make any gains in the remaining minutes.
The Pacers look ahead to conference play for the weekend as they take on Averett University on Sunday, October 10, at 12:00 p.m. The Cougars are (2-5-2) overall and (1-2-1) in conference.
