GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The WPU women's volleyball team defeated the Guilford Quakers in a non-conference matchup on September 20th in Greensboro, NC. The game proved to be a close contest in all four sets, (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14). The Pacers are now (4-9) on the season.
Set one was a back and forth match, but the Quakers managed to steal the lead at the very end. Freshman,
Alyssa Welch, contributed 5 kills in the first set alone, totaling 15 kills in the entire game. Senior,
Lindsay Alford, and sophomore,
Mya Parks, were right with Welch, with 11 and 15 kills, respectively. The second set would see the Pacers battle back with strong offensive play as the team would notch 11 kills and tie the game at 1-1. The third set was also a close fight with the Pacers leading most of the way. The Pacers clinched the game with a 3-1 in the fourth set as they maintained a commanding lead for most of the set and won by an 11 point margin.
WPU continued with their defensive play, tallying 86 digs over the Quakers. Senior,
Liana Solomon, and sophomore,
Mya Parks, led the defensive action, with 20 digs a piece, with senior,
Carson Williams, not far behind them with 17 digs.
The Pacers hit the road again Saturday, September 23rd, for the Methodist University Tri-Match, where they will face Averett University and Methodist University in conference play.
