Softball Sweeps Monarchs in Final Home Game

RALEIGH N.C. -- The William Peace University softball team out witted Methodist University, 2-0 in game one and 5-4 in game two on Sunday afternoon. The Pacers increase to 20-20 on the season.

Kelsey Durham was on the mound today and the Pacers owe game one to her stern pitching. Leaving Methodist wondering where the bats where at, In the bottom of the sixth inning Durham was up to bat and cracked a deep double to left field. Lindsey Wiggins and Heather McLean would score on the hit to bring the Pacers ahead of the Monarchs. Durham shutout the Monarchs through seven innings and the final score would end at 2-0.

Game two would be an eventful game. To start, the Monarchs would pull ahead in the third inning bringing a home the first few batters in their rotation. The score would be 4-0 in favor of the Monarchs until the Pacers opened up the game after the third. The Pacers answered with a ring of two doubles and a set of singles in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score tied at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and no outs Kacey Haithcock rocked a double to the left field line and scored the winning run for the Pacers. Final score 5-4. The games would put the Pacers at 20-20 on the season.Seniors, Lindsey Wiggins, Jordan Byrd, and Shay Poteat would finish their final game on the Pacer field with two wins, however there is plenty of play left for the team! The Pacers head to the USA South Softball Conference Tournament at the #6 seed and will face #1 seed Meredith College on Saturday, April 8th. Time TBD.
