RALEIGH -- The William Peace women's basketball team routed Mary Baldwin, 74-41, on Sunday. The Pacers responded well after losing to Ferrum in a close game yesterday.
The game was never in doubt with the Pacers taking the lead early and never looking back. William Peace outscored the Fighting Squirrels, 15-9, in the first quarter, but the Pacers did most of their damage in the second quarter outscoring the Squirrels, 16-6. The Pacers cruised to a win in the second half and finished the game with a comfortable 74-41 lead.
Jayde Grant scored a career-high 20 points in only 24 minutes to lead the Pacers while
Susannah Sykes added 13 and
Cassidy Clark scored 10.
Whitney Walker and
Tyler Mercer each had six assists.
The Pacers earned the conference win by forcing the Squirrels into poor decision and causing 29 turnovers. Mary Baldwin only had five players and the fatigue wore on them as the game waned on.
William Peace also got a little offensive rhythm back shooting 48.4% from the floor.
