CARY, NC – The William Peace University men's soccer team was back in action Saturday afternoon. The Pacers had a number of opportunities but couldn't put one away, falling to the Panthers of Ferrum College by a final score of 1-0.
WPU falls to 4-5-1 overall with an 0-4 mark in the USA South. Ferrum improves to 3-6 and 1-1 in conference.
The Pacers outshot Ferrum, 16-13, and were particularly strong in the second half with 10 shots to the Panthers' five. WPU's slow start cost them though, as Keith Ricks found Shamarr Perry in the 12th minute which ended up being the game-winner.
"It was a tough loss. I really thought we dominated play in the second half and just didn't put one away. To their credit though, when we came out flat in the first half they punished us for it. We didn't recover and defend as a team, and they have some talented guys up top that made us pay," said head coach
Caleb Husmann. "I'm proud of the way our men responded in the second half, but we can't afford to dig ourselves a hole like that. We have to come out strong from the first whistle which is something we can definitely improve from that regard."
The WPU men's soccer team is back at WakeMed Soccer Park this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. against Randolph-Macon.
