MARYVILLE, TN – The William Peace University volleyball team was back on the road for another USA South quad-match Saturday night at Maryville College. The Pacers turned in a dominant 3-0 win against Wesleyan College before dropping a 3-1 decision against Maryville.
Wesleyan was no match for the Pacers, who took down the Wolves (0-9, 0-4 USAS) by scores of 25-6, 25-5 and 25-7, thanks largely in part to 17 service aces.
Mya Parks led WPU with nine kills at a .750 clip along with two service aces and a block assist.
Tempestt Frazier finished with eight kills and a block solo, while
Sarah Scott added six kills, four digs and a pair of service aces.
Courtney Atkinson notched a career high 28 assists, four digs and three service aces. Carson William led the defense with 10 digs, three assists and two service aces.
The Pacers' second match against Maryville was like night and day compared to their first. The Scots took the first set, 25-22, but WPU bounced back to even things up with a 25-18 win in the second. Maryville cruised to a 25-15 victory in the third before holding off the Pacers in the fourth, 26-24.
WPU (12-4, 3-2 USAS) actually recorded more total points that the Scots, 72-63, but cost themselves with 10 service errors.
Parks paced the way once again with a double-double of 16 kills, 13 digs, two block assists, a service ace and an assist. Frazier had 10 more kills, three block solos and two block assists, while
Laura Bland finished with nine kills, 19 digs, a block solo and a service ace. Solomon nearly notched her second triple-double in as many days with 32 assists, 17 digs, eight kills, five service aces and a block assist. Williams tied Bland with a team high 19 digs and five assists.
Julie Vineyard led Maryville (8-8, 3-1 USAS) with 16 kills, two block solos and two block assists. Nia Haller had a double-double of 13 kills, 11 digs, two block assists and block solo. Saidee McDaniel also recorded a double-double of 41 assists, 17 digs and a three service aces.
The WPU Volleyball is back on the road this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for a match against the no. 13 ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University.
